Home Refresh

As you may have seen on my Instagram over the past few weeks, I tried to share a few fun ways to refresh your home during this awful pandemic. I thought I would continue with this through a blog post on how to revamp your house with items you already have. I know money is tight these days for many of us, as jobs have been lost, the economy has crumbled and we have realized the thing we value most in life is our family. So I understand that not everyone is into buying objects right now. Here are some ideas on easy home fixes without spending a fortune. And it includes ways you can support small businesses in making these changes as well.

Look around. What is missing? I know you’ve looked at every wall about 1000 times by now. I realized that my home was missing family photos. I always look at them on my phone but after sitting around the house so much, I want to view them all around me. Try shopping locally for this (on their website or by delivery) for frames and printing services.

Working from home? Did you have to create a makeshift office environment? Maybe you realized you needed more lighting to see the work you were doing. Consider moving things around your home. Move a lamp from the guest room into a room you use more frequently. Or a floor lamp in the living room to the opposite sofa. This is at no cost to you and you might just be surprised at how much you love the rearrangement. And functionally it probably works better as well! Another fun way to add lighting is through creating a light fixture out of an object. This year we made am antique wooden tripod into a functioning floor lamp. Contact your local lamp-maker and see what they can do about turning your fun vase into a new, functional fixture!

Working from the sofa? Maybe you’re sick of looking at your pillows or they just aren’t that comfortable. This is one of the easiest ways to spruce up a room without breaking the bank. Maybe you know a neighbor who can sew some out of an old tablecloth? Or you have a local fabric store that could really use your business right now. However you decide to do it, brighten up your space with new pillows!

Rearrange your shelves and vignettes. Make it feel new again. Move a picture hanging on the wall to lean against a mirror on a console in the foyer. Add layers and dimension where it was otherwise missing. Have a favorite serving bowl? Throw some trinkets in it and put it on display. Simple rearrangements can make a huge difference. Simply switch the objects from your bedroom with the living room and you’ll have a totally new look. Never got around to organizing your drawers and closets? Contact a local organizing company to help you rearrange and keep their business afloat.
